In the procedure, the doctor uses a colposcope - a large electric microscope with a bright light on the end of it. During the procedure, the woman sits on the special couch and the doctor puts a speculum into the vagina to visualize it.

If the abnormality is found, LLETZ or LEEP procedure is prescribed for treatment. A solution of acetic acid is wiped on the cervix for dysplastic cells to become white and visible, the more dense the area, the more abnormal it is.
