The virus can have long incubation period, months can pass between the time a person is infected with the virus and the time a person notices lesions or visible signs. They sometimes can take years to develop. The use of condoms will not prevent you from catching HPV.

Human papilloma virus (HPV) is transmitted by having sex with someone who is infected with the HPV virus. The only way to avoid contracting the virus is to avoid having sex at all, or to have a monogamous relationship with someone who doesn’t have the virus. A genital picture wart woman may also have a plantar wart, both caused by the HPV virus.
